Strength in Numbers Campaign
The Education Workers Steering Committee has launched a new campaign called “Strength in Numbers”. We are seeing a rise in violence in our schools, shortfalls in funding and now the Jordan’s Principle program is undergoing a major backlog in approving funding resulting in devastating layoffs.
Many locals are going into bargaining in 2025. We must stand together to show employers and this government that CUPE Education Workers deserve better! We need to work together on bargaining common language and coordinate expiry dates. Considering the teachers strike, we need to strengthen language regarding the crossing of picket lines.
We encourage locals to partake in the “Strength in Numbers” campaign by purchasing “Strength in Numbers” shirts for your members. The order form, sizing chart and other information is below. The clothing can be customized with your local number while still showing solidarity with all education support workers throughout Saskatchewan.
CUPE National offers Cost Shares. To take advantage of this, the local must apply for a cost share to CUPE National to help cover costs for a variety of campaigns (work with your national servicing rep to apply for a cost share). Cost Shares allow for locals to receive up to 50% cost recovery on campaign expenses. This will allow you to buy one shirt and get one free!!
The “Strength in Numbers” campaign is for education support workers in this province to bring awareness to issues that we are all facing: unlivable wages, low staffing levels, reduced hours, violence in schools, etc. We want to empower locals and their members to build solidarity with their neighboring locals and other locals throughout the province. This movement will show that there IS “Strength in Numbers”
We will be discussing the campaign as well as the shirts at conference. We will collectively devise a plan on when and where to wear the campaign clothing. We will decide how we build momentum with our “Days of Education” to invoke awareness within our communities and to force our government to take action and fund education as it should be.
