The Education Workers Steering Committee (EWSC) is a branch of CUPE Saskatchewan dedicated to addressing the needs of support staff across the province’s K-12 education system.
With 7000 members in the education sector, EWSC advocates on their behalf, engaging directly with the provincial government, typically through the Minister of Education. This advocacy aims to bring attention to and resolve issues impacting education workers.
EWSC maintains regular communication with opposition parties to highlight challenges faced by K-12 support staff. Political actions such as rallies, online petitions, and campaigns are organized to raise public awareness on these issues.
Collaboration with key stakeholders like the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA) and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) helps establish mutual goals and strategies.
EWSC facilitates networking among local presidents and executives through events like Town Hall and All Presidents meetings, promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices.
Additionally, EWSC contributes to community support initiatives such as summer lunch programs and local charity partnerships. Together with CUPE Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL), EWSC also organizes summer BBQ events, fostering solidarity among members.
